MULTIVERSE SURVEILLANCE PORTAL
Lex Pastore
Potentially Useful Information: Lex Pastore
Last modified by Charter Agent 4H1
Favorite Dream: Seeing his grandmother Jean after she died. Jean said she came back to give him a special present from beyond: a box of crayons with colors that are not on the visible spectrum. Lex colored for a while, even though he couldn’t see what he was putting on the page. He gave the drawing to his grandmother to take with her.
Least Favorite Dream: Watching his twin sister rearrange her facial features, looking less like herself, less like him. She shoved Lex aside when he tried to stop her. When she was unrecognizable she laughed at her brother and stepped outside, disappearing forever into the crowd.
Hiding Space: In his bedroom closet, behind the clothes. He keeps a child-sized laboratory there. The twins' bedroom used to belong to Piper and Lucius when they were children. The closet has, for generations, been a place where the dreams of the Selig children pooled and crystallized. They formed an elaborate crystal village which is only visible to our agents.

Lex’s Dangerous Scientific Acumen
Last modified by Charter Agent WKU
The Pyramid ordered us to keep Lex under constant surveillance when he wasn’t at home. We placed him in Mrs. Marshawn’s 2nd grade classroom and gave her instructions to observe Lex and break his will. Second grade teachers are the best psyoperatives in the business.
Marshawn has been a Charter operative for many years, but she’s past her prime. The following are her notes describing her lackluster attempt to “reform” Lex after he was caught making paper airplanes in class. Out of her pathetic desire to feel as though she were in control, she did the unthinkable by giving these notes to Lex’s parents. They threatened to sue the district unless Lex was placed in a different classroom. We retired Mrs. Marshawn shortly after. Her notes describe Lex’s uncanny ability for engineering. *(Administrator note: Where is Mrs. Marshawn now? Most Charter operatives are retired to the robot pits, but I can’t find any trace of her there).
In spite of Mrs. Marshawn's efforts Lex went on to achieve greater feats of invention.
Lex’s scientific pursuits took on a darker and more esoteric tone the older he became. This was recorded by our spy in the Selig/Pastore household.
Lex: So this says (he rustles some papers) I can blend them - that I can blend the bodies of them. The mouse and the machine and, the two of them just one thing, one great thing that I made and, still squeaks and sleeps, but runs on steam and the electricity produced by a living being - this is an awesome thing and, all my own. (there are the sounds of an electric current, bug zapper-like) Life is made - no book says otherwise - whether it’s clay pummeled into shape by a gods’ hands or through evolution or, better yet, like this - by me, through my experiments - and, (laughs) what could I fail in? - Nothing. See, he breathes and moves and is the same, but better than the same, he’s more than he was before. Though, when sleeping, does he dream and, if so, of what? Of mouse things or, machine things? And if he gets too hot, what then? Too cold, then what? Well, life is a made thing, a testing out what works - so we’ll see how he goes into spring and summer and the rest - if he freezes in winter or runs better - well that’s where the making is, the clay in my hand - nothing’s perfect, but I will make a better thing. I’ll make something new, cooler than anything and, totally different.
Lex Pastore: Troubled Genius

Chaotic Abilities: Like his grandfather, Lex has an innate sense of engineering coupled with an obsession with esoteric science. Esoteric scientists create machines that can interact with the spirits of sentient creatures or twist the fundamental properties of the Multiverse. Lex's knowledge grows by the day and he should be considered our highest priority in the Selig household.
Motivating Fear: The realization that he and his twin sister Morgan are going to get older and separate. Over time they will resemble each other less and less. One of them could die. One of them (he fears that it will be Morgan) will become bored or fed up with the other twin and leave.
These fears are rooted in the death of his grandmother Jean and the rocky relationship between his mother Piper and her twin brother Lucius. In addition to that, Lex and Morgan shared a traumatic experience when they got lost in the woods behind their home. They found the body of a long-dead deer. Later that night, after their parents had found them, the twins had a conversation over text messages. When Lex references “Nimsesku,” he is speaking about the family hamster, which cannot die.
Lex: … Nimsesku, he’s who we’re like. we won’t end up like a dumb dead deer. That’s for dumb animals that can’t look out for themselves.
Morgan: Why do you think that. I don’t think that. We die.
L: Things die. Not us, we’re smarter than that, I think.
M: You’re dumb, and not like an animal. They’re smart, that dumb dead deer isn’t dumb, it’s smarter than you who thinks he’ll live forever. Idiot.
L: STFU. Baby. Get smart. We are else. We are different. We're Nimsesku to the max.
M: u stfu. You’re dumb and silly and dangerous. STFU u!
L: Listen, we can beat it. Death. And we will. We are no deer.
Lex Pastore: His Family

Emerson Selig (Grandfather): Lex shares his grandfather’s aptitude for science and engineering. His grandfather refuses to talk about his esoteric research with anyone, but Lex suspects there is a connection between the strange device in Emerson’s office and his pet hamster Nimsesku. Emerson keeps his notes locked away in a safe. He doesn’t know that someone else has the combination.
Jean Selig (Grandmother)(Deceased): Jean’s death was an important moment for the twins. Lex has never been alone. The loss of his grandmother forced him to contemplate a future where he would be forever separated from his twin sister Morgan. Time would find a way to drive them apart. Lex seeks to prevent that with his research.
Piper Pastore (Mother): Piper is in flux. The all-sight that she had as a child is starting to come back. She can see multiple versions of reality stacked on top of each other. Alternate tellings of similar events play out before her eyes. How many of those world variations have Lex in them? It’s too much information. It’s overwhelming. Morgan’s notes about Lex’s strange experiments go unread.
Nicolae Pastore (Father): Nicolae tells the twins everything about his musical experiments. Emerson won’t say it anymore, but Nicolae will: “Sound is the key to the Multiverse.” Everything makes music. Even your eyes rolling in their sockets make a sound. Lex and Morgan haven’t seen much of their father lately, but they brag about him at school. They tell their friends that Nicolae is building an instrument made out of light.
Lucius Selig (Uncle): Lex and his uncle have been growing closer since Lucius moved back home. Lucius senses that he and Lex share an affinity for creative chaos. He may be planning to use Lex for his own gain. Lucius is clever and he knows how to avoid detection by the Charter. This relationship is very dangerous.
Morgan Pastore (Twin Sister)*: Lex is afraid of losing his twin sister. Time or the entropy of once-close relationships could drive them apart. He thinks Nimsesku, an ancient hamster who was owned by Piper and Lucius when they were children, holds the key to preserving his bond with Morgan.
*(The Selig family tree is teeming with twins. Strange synchronicities like this one sometimes appear before a cataclysm. It's like chaos is taunting us.)

Biography: Lex Pastore
Last modified by Charter Agent E52
It’s impossible to discuss Lex without including his twin sister Morgan. The twins act like a binary system. One of our agents observed that when we see Morgan and Lex talk, we’re watching the internal monologue of one person.
The relationship between the two halves used to be balanced, but that changed. Morgan was prepared to individuate, to go her own way, but Lex was not ready. He wasn't able able to articulate this fear until the death of his grandmother Jean. That death drew Lex’s fear into the open, causing him to obsess over the eventual day when time would split the twins apart and he would be alone.
[caption id="attachment_281" align="alignnone" width="300"] Lex and Lucius may have found common cause. This would be a nightmare scenario for us.[/caption]
Lex shares Emerson's aptitude for science and engineering. It’s as though everyone from the Selig line is fated to pursue esoteric science.
Lex’s intelligence comes at the expense of ethics. Lex conducts experiments on Nimsesku, the family hamster. Lex knows the hamster cannot die and so he test the limits of Nimsesku’s ability to survive. He thinks that he and Morgan will find a way to be together forever if he can solve the riddle of the hamster. His experiments are crude, but as Lex continues his work he learns more about the nature of Nimsesku’s resurrections. This is troubling because we’ve been using the hamster as a spy within the Selig/Pastore household for several decades.
Lex will be incredibly dangerous in a few years.
Lucius presents another problem. He knows that Lex is pursuing his grandfather's research into esoteric science, the same research that gave Lucius his ability to astral project. It's possible that he's feeding his nephew information in the hope that Lex will restore him to his former glory.
Our agents have been running simulations based on Lex’s continued existence and most end in disaster.
